synopsis

English

The Forerunner of Korean Environmental Documentaries.
KBS created a sensation in the documentary world after airing an environmental documentary about the Dong River several years ago. Starting from the spring of 1999, KBS 1TV has been broadcasting Environment Special during the prime time, becoming the genuine “documentary kingdom.”

The mission of Environment Special is to raise environmental awareness of the public. This program tackles a full range of environmental problems -- from how to preserve Korea’s mountains, rivers, seas and marshes to how to protect the Earth from nuclear waste, pollution and global warming. This program has gained enormous popularity from viewers, and became the leading environmental documentary in Korea.

The Earth, humanity and the future

Ahead of the program’s 200th episode, the production team of Environment Special has embarked on searching for solutions to environmental problems instead of just unearthing them. This program has been faithfully fulfilling its role of an environmental documentary through a close collaboration with local authorities and environmental experts and activists. Each episode of this weekly program takes a minimum of four months and a maximum of two years to finish, which probably explains its high quality. This program takes a look at environmental issues from an objective perspective and raises public awareness about the need to protect Mother Nature.

Each episode of KBS’ Environment Special has been highly credited by viewers for unique filming techniques and various standpoints on environmental issues. Episodes on the Saemanggeum reclamation project, Sihwa Lake and Ganghwa wetlands stirred numerous debates and brought hope to those concerned.

Keeping our promise to viewers

As Environment Special is preparing to air its 200th episode, the production team promises to never stop in its quest for producing better programs using KBS’ unique filming techniques, and continue its mission of improving the environment.
