Synopsis
‘The Queen Returns’ is a romantic comedy about two women. One of them is now a homemaker whose dream was to be a ballerina, and the other is now a famous ballerina whose dream was to be a good wife and wise mother. They get to fight over a young hunk who was the homemaker’s first love and now is the successful ballerina’s ideal man.
Cha Do-kyung (39 yrs old, a homemaker)
She is a good homemaker whose dream was to be a ballerina.
After her parents died from a car accident, she was raised by her mother’s rich family. At her senior year in college while studying to be a ballerina, she falls in love with a high school student, Jo Hyun-woo who is five years younger than her.
However, Hyun-woo emigrates to the States with his family, and they break up. While she drinks with her friend, Bong-seon’s brother, Bong-hee, for filling her broken heart, she has a one-night stand by accident. After that night, she becomes pregnant with twins and ends up marring him.
Due to her childish writer husband, the graceful Cha Do-kyung is gone, and she becomes a middle aged woman just like everyone else. Afterwards, she decides to change her husband and asks him for a divorce, and she becomes a bread winner of her family. In order to support her son and daughter, who are high school students, and her young son, Seon-wung, she gets help from her husband’s first love and also her old friend, Gong-sim. And their ill-fated relationship gets to start again.
Jang Gong-sim (39 yrs old, a leader of a ballet company)
She is a successful ballerina whose dream was a good homemaker.
Because of her poor family background, she spent her school days acting like a servant of Do-kyung, who was a granddaughter of the owner of the house. As she followed Do-kyung to a ballet academy, she also dreamed of becoming a ballerina. One day, her boyfriend, Bong-hee, has a night with Do-kyung and gets married with her.
She devotes herself to practicing ballet to get over their betrayal. Then she goes to France and plays as a ballerina there, and she comes back as a leader of a ballet company. However, every time she tries to seduce Hyun-woo, she loses the chance because of Do-kyung’s interruption, and then she comes into conflicts with Do-kyung over everything.
Na Bong-hee (39 yrs old, a writer)
He is Do-kyung’s husband and Do-kyung’s high school friend, Bong-seon’s younger brother. He likes people, drinking, and has a warm heart, so he always cares about others first. Although Do-kyung saw him as her friend’s brother, he finally won Do-kyung’s heart and got married. He tries to do things well, but something always goes wrong. At last, he becomes to lose his house because he vouches for someone\'s debt, and he gets an unwanted divorce.
Jo Hyun-woo (34 yrs old, a director of a foundation)
He is Do-kyung’s first love and a grandson of a president of Osoeng Group. He emigrates to the States with his family at his second year of high school. After 17 years, he comes back to Korea as a director of an art center where Gong-sim works because of his grandfather.
He becomes a good friend with Gong-sim who’s always by his side every time he needs. However, after he meets his first love, Do-kyung, again, he feels the old feelings once again and starts fall for her.
